Frankfort Family Law Attorneys Advocate on Your Behalf

Illinois has enacted many complex family law statutes regarding such issues as divorce, child custody and support, paternity, and adoption, but these matters are challenging for additional reasons. Emotions like stress and uncertainty often cloud cases where personal relationships are at the center of a dispute. Without the assistance of a qualified legal advocate to offer advice and counsel, you put your legal rights at risk.

At Demetrios N. Dalmares & Associates, Ltd., it is the goal of our lawyers to provide effective, knowledgeable representation in all types of family law case. Whether your case is a simplified, agreeable matter or a hotly contested court battle, we make your concerns our concerns. We have been representing clients in Cook, Will, DuPage, and Kankakee Counties since 1992, so you get peace of mind knowing that we are committed to protecting your rights.

Summary of Illinois Family Law

Our firm’s core concentration is family law, so our lawyers have the skills and attention to detail necessary to effectively represent you in all related practice areas. We provide legal services regarding:

  • Divorce Cases: While every case is different, most couples must address the issues of asset division and alimony (now known as “maintenance”) in the divorce process. Illinois law encourages couples to agree, but courts will turn to the divorce statute where compromise on marital property distribution is not possible.

The objective of spousal support, commonly termed alimony, is to fairly balance one spouse’s need and the other’s income. Where one party sacrificed opportunities to contribute to the marital household, a judge may order reasonable alimony.

  • Custody and Support of Minor Children: Illinois no longer refers to the traditional notions of custody and visitation, having enacted a statute on Allocation of Parental Responsibilities and parenting time. This approach enables both parents to participate in raising the child and maintain strong, healthy relationships. Still, the law requires consideration of the child’s best interests for decisions on education, religion, extracurricular activities, and medical care.

Regardless of marriage, parents have a legal obligation to support their children financially. A noncustodial parent is generally ordered to pay child support, and the amount is determined by statutory formulas and other factors. A child support order may be subject to modification based upon a change in circumstances.

We are also proud to advise our clients on such matters as:
